lady eaglesRhema Dominates Ozark Christian in 49-Point Win

The Rhema Lady Eagles lost the opening tip in their contest Tuesday night against the Ozark Christian Lady Ambassadors, but they dominated every aspect of the game after that en route to an 85-36 victory at the Ninowski Recreation Center. The Lady Eagles have won three of their last four games to improve their overall record to 7-10 on the year.

Utilizing a full-court press and suffocating man-to-man defense, Rhema built a double-digit lead within minutes of the opening tip. Rhema’s stifling defense forced 32 Ozark turnovers that led to 31 Lady Eagle points. Conversely, Rhema had only nine turnovers that led to six points for Ozark.

When the Lady Eagles weren’t scoring on fast-break layups they went to work in their set offense, scoring from all over the court. For the third time in the last four games, Rhema had five players score in double figures. With a balanced offensive attack, the Lady Eagles held a 29-point halftime advantage and cruised to an easy 49-point victory.

Lady Eagles’ freshman guard Jamie Davis led all scorers with 22 points on 50 percent shooting (5-for-10) from long distance. She added six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Keirstyn Spangler scored a career-high 20 points and had three steals. Vanessa Zailo notched her third double-double in her last four games with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. She now has 10 double-doubles for the season. Kori Jo Jones finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Jessica Davis added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Lady Eagles return to action Friday, January 13, when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to compete in the Martin Luther King Classic. Game time has yet to be announced.
