In the first half of their contest against NAIA-opponent the University of Saint Mary, the Rhema Eagles battled and gave the Spires everything they could handle, trailing by only six at the break. In the second half, too many turnovers caused Rhema’s demise in an 81-59 loss Monday night.
The Eagles shot better than Saint Mary from the floor (44 percent to 35 percent), but committed twice as many turnovers (27 to 13), were outscored from the free-throw line (23 to 14), and were outscored from three-point range (24 to 3). The Eagles were led by sophomore forward Parris Hoskins, who had a team-high 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out three assists. Mike Jenkins had season highs in points and rebounds with 12 points and eight boards. Brody Christian finished with 11 points, while Josh White added eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.
