| Eagles Lose to NCAA Div. II Cameron |
|
There's a famous quote that says, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." That could be said of the Rhema Eagles' competition Tuesday night at the Ninowski Recreation Center against NCAA Division II foe Cameron University. In a lopsided contest, the Aggies bested Rhema 72-40. Each season, Rhema Eagles' head coach Perry Shockley schedules games that, in his own words, are like David versus Goliath. He uses these games against bigger and faster opponents to prepare his squad for a national championship run in March and to gauge his team. Many of his national championship teams have taken thumpings during the regular season from larger schools.
The Eagles took that thumping Tuesday night. The Aggies out-rebounded Rhema by 35, 57-22. Cameron out-shot the Eagles from the floor (49 percent to 27 percent), from behind the arc (30 Percent to 17 percent), and from the free-throw line (64 percent to 30 percent). One bright spot for Rhema was that they had their fewest turnovers of the season (10). Sophomore forward Parris Hoskins led Rhema with 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Freshman guard Kasey Byrd finished with 10 points, while freshman forward Marc Gustin grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
